About the role
We are seeking a German-speaking Senior Python Backend Engineer to join our DACH expansion team—currently one of the most crucial pieces of Nordhealth’s global growth puzzle. This is a unique opportunity to work directly on the highest-priority missions of the company.
Provet is not just another low-traffic SaaS app; it is a mission-critical productivity platform that veterinarians rely on completely to do their jobs and care for their patients daily. While engineers at other companies rarely encounter real performance or scaling issues due to low user volume, our massive active footprint and extensive feature set offer genuinely interesting technical challenges. If you are an engineer who loves diving close to the metal to build for true high performance, quality, and scale, you will thrive here.
In this role, you will help us implement next-generation functionalities and architect robust API interfaces to power our modern Vue.js frontend, while systematically refactoring, optimizing, and rewriting our core Python/Django framework. 🚀🚀
Your key responsibilities include:
Drive High-Priority Architecture: Develop and scale robust, backend Python applications that anchor our mission-critical SaaS ecosystem.
Solve Real Scale Challenges: Optimize application performance and troubleshoot complex technical bottlenecks unique to a high-volume platform with a massive feature set.
Elevate the Codebase: Conduct rigorous code reviews, champion automated testing, and systematically refactor legacy Python/Django systems for optimal quality.
Advance Modern API Infrastructure: Build clean, scalable API interfaces that ensure seamless third-party integrations and power our Vue.js frontend.
Collaborate & Mentor: Partner closely with cross-functional teams on systemic design, mentor junior developers, and cultivate a team culture of continuous learning.
Secure & Document: Implement industry-standard security practices, maintain compliance, and document architectural processes to enable high-velocity team iteration.
What will help you to be successful in this role?
Ideally, you have already gained some experience from working in a fast growing, global SaaS company. Additionally:
Successfully navigating the challenges of managing legacy code while enhancing and maintaining the SaaS platform's functionality is crucial for the Senior Python Developer role. This includes understanding the existing codebase, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes effectively.
Building new APIs to support frontend requirements is another key success factor. This involves designing APIs that meet the needs of the frontend while ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
Additionally, the ability to refactor code to improve maintainability, scalability, and performance is essential. This may involve restructuring code, optimizing algorithms, and implementing best practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform.
Defining clear and proper interfaces for modules is also critical for success. This includes establishing consistent communication protocols and data formats to facilitate collaboration and maintainability within the development team.
Bring a True Builder’s Mentality & AI Fluency: Actively leverage modern AI workflows to accelerate prototyping, streamline development loops, and eliminate friction. We want a practical builder who stays close to the metal—someone who uses the best tools available to iterate rapidly and solve complex engineering problems at scale.
In addition, our humble wishlist includes:
Strong proficiency in Python programming language, including libraries and frameworks, especially Django.
Experience in developing and maintaining SaaS applications, and ability to design scalable and reliable software solutions.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with Product Management teams.
Experience with Docker and containerization of services
Knowledge of software development methodologies, such as Agile
Proficiency in working with relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and code quality assurance.
Ability to identify and address performance bottlenecks.
Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting technical issues.
Eagerness to stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
Full proficiency in both German and English.
Having one or more of these skills will help in succeeding in this role:
Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards.
Experience with development of cloud-based solutions
Experience with AWS services like Lambda, ECS, EKS or App Runner
Experience working with Agile teams
