About the role
We are here to create great healthcare products. That's at our very core, but it's the people who make companies great, not the other way around. We spend more time with our co-workers than anyone else in our lives. Being part of an exceptional team is not only important for your personal mindfulness but key for your professional progression.
We're now looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Treat team in Provet, our veterinary practice management software.
Treat owns the Patient Care Experience in Provet: the consultation and everything a vet does while treating a patient. It's the most used and most data-heavy part of the product, and its performance and usability shape how thousands of vets feel about Provet every day.
We're migrating this experience to our new frontend (Vue 3, TypeScript, Nuxt, built on our in-house Nord design system) while keeping the legacy Django-rendered UI (with React and Vue 2 pieces) healthy until each page is moved. You'll spend most of your time in the new frontend, but you'll regularly reach into the Django backend to build or adjust the API endpoints, queries and business logic your feature needs. A serializer change or a new endpoint is part of your feature, not a handoff.
You act as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for what you take on: you turn fuzzy ideas into great product, make the calls along the way, and keep everyone informed, from your team and product partners to our senior leadership team.
Succeeding here also means being AI-driven. You build with coding agents daily, you push what they can do, and you help the team work the same way. A builder's mentality and a bar-raiser attitude are what make this role fun! 🚀
Your key responsibilities include:
Design, build and ship robust, fast and user-friendly frontend solutions for the Provet Patient Care Experience, in the new Vue 3 / Nuxt frontend and, where needed, in the legacy UI.
Build the backend pieces your features need: Django views, JSON:API endpoints, queries and business logic, with the tests to match.
Act as DRI for the initiatives you take on: turn a fuzzy idea into a shipped product together with product and design, make the trade-offs, and keep stakeholders up to senior leadership informed along the way.
Run AI coding agents as a core part of your daily work and raise the ceiling for the whole team: shape the codebase, tooling and guardrails so agents can work on it autonomously and safely, orchestrate them across your delivery work rather than one task at a time, and measure where they move the needle on quality and throughput.
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers and veterinary domain experts to shape the product.
Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and optimise for speed and responsiveness in a page that routinely renders hundreds of items.
Write high-quality, maintainable code, and raise the bar through code reviews and mentoring of less experienced engineers.
Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the stack, from browser performance traces to slow database queries.
Stay up to date with frontend and AI tooling, and advocate for adoption when it genuinely helps.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes, tooling and infrastructure.
What will help you to be successful in this role?
Ideally, you have already gained some experience from working in a fast growing, global SaaS company. In addition, our humble wishlist includes:
5+ years of experience in software development.
Expert in Vue (Vue 3, Composition API) with TypeScript, and experience with large-scale JavaScript codebases. Strong fundamentals matter more than any single framework.
Working experience with Python and Django, or a strong, demonstrated willingness to build the backend pieces of your own features.
Deep, daily experience orchestrating AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex: delegating and reviewing substantial pieces of work, building the context and guardrails that let agents run autonomously, and grounded opinions on where they excel and where they still fall short.
Strong fundamentals in HTML and CSS and experience building accessible UI.
Experience building data-heavy, interactive UIs where performance is a feature.
Experience with automated frontend testing (unit, component and end-to-end).
Experience migrating a legacy frontend incrementally, without disrupting users, is a plus.
Experience with Nuxt, React or jQuery-era code is a plus. You'll meet all three.
Experience with DevOps and CI/CD is a plus.
Full proficiency in English, written and spoken.
Success factors and key challenges of the role
DRI ownership: You take an initiative from a vague idea to a product vets love, communicate clearly with everyone involved, including our senior leadership team, and say early when something is going sideways.
AI-driven development: You treat coding agents as a multiplier, not a toy. You know how to brief them, review their output critically, and turn what you learn into shared skills and workflows for the team.
Frontend depth, full-stack willingness: Deep Vue 3 and TypeScript skills to drive the migration, plus the curiosity to open the Django side and ship the endpoint yourself.
Strong technical design acumen: Ability to design scalable, maintainable and performant solutions for a page that is the busiest in the product.
Performance mindset: The consultation page renders hundreds of items and dozens of modals. You know how to measure first, find the real bottleneck, and fix it.
Framework consolidation: Identifying opportunities and strategising for moving legacy pages and components to the new frontend without disrupting the user experience.
Consistent UI/UX across frameworks: Maintaining a cohesive visual identity with the Nord design system while parts of the application still live in different frontend technologies.
Effective cross-functional collaboration: Partnering with product, design, backend and veterinary domain experts to turn requirements into working software.
Curious attitude, open to new technologies: Always eager to learn, not settling for the status quo, and confident approaching unfamiliar ground such as Django, Celery tasks or MySQL query plans with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.
